The Swiss STB2 Bureau of ADP Wilco is an international outsourcing service for private banking and asset management operations. It provides comprehensive coverage of the operational and reporting requirements of the front and back office, and is supported by world class standards of services. Most of the components of STB2 Bureau are running on a large IBM mainframe using thousands of "Green Screens". STB2 represents a safe, scalable, reliable and stable environment capable of supporting many thousands of concurrent users. However, users nowadays are more convinced than ever that the only way to work with a computer is by looking through the eyes of a GUI interface. In order to increase the user acceptance, ADP Wilco decided to rejuvenate all STB2 Green Screens - a complex task given that there are more than 6,500 screens.
"On the one hand, ADP Wilco already has resources and extensive experience with modern technologies such as Java, but on the other hand one cannot neglect hundreds of man-years of development, expertise and experience with STB2. Thus, we decided to take the best of both breeds. comForte and JPath proved to be the right solution," says Manuel Gonzalez, ADP Wilco's director.
The main advantage of JPath is the power of its dynamic engine which gives STB2 an instant GUI with the capability of future enhancements. Instead of customizing each screen individually, screen independent rules define the new look and feel of the GUI. In just 30 days, comForte developed the GUI conversion rules for the complete STB2 application and additional modules for the "pseudo windows" (sub-windows being drawn on the Green Screens by special characters). On average, this comes down to only 2 minutes of customization time for each screen. To cite Betrand Blanchet, ADP Wilco's project leader: "It was a great experience working together with comForte. With JPath, we accomplished what I first believed to be impossible - to create the complete GUI in such a short time!"
